Ideal eyelid surgery candidate in NYC

If any of the following conditions below apply to you, you may be considered a good candidate for eyelid surgery.

  • Apparent eye bags and dark circles under the eyes

  • Upper eyelids appear swollen, which make the eyes look tired
  • Excess skin and wrinkling of the lower eyelids
  • Excess skin concealing the natural crease of the upper eyelids
  • Loose skin hanging from the upper eyelids, which impairs vision
  • Floppiness of lower eyelid

Treatment of these problems can usually be corrected by aesthetic eyelid surgery, although other treatments should also be considered. The following are some examples:

  • Forehead lift – Recommended if the upper eyelid condition is accompanied by loosening of the eyebrows
  • Hyaluronic Acid/Fat, bleaching solution, or chemical peel – Recommended if circles under the eyes are caused by dark pigmentation
  • Botox®, chemical peeling, or laser resurfacing procedures – Recommended to smooth crow’s feet (wrinkle in the skin at the outer corner of the eyes)

Eyelid surgery results

Aesthetic eyelid surgery results in a refreshed and relaxed look. The healing process is gradual and incisions will take months before fading. So, you should wait at least a few weeks to see the accurate results of your surgery. Aesthetic eyelid surgery has long-term results but it depends on your heredity and lifestyle. Removal of fat from the eyelids, which is usually the reason for puffiness and eye bags, is permanent, and these conditions usually will not reappear. But because skin aging is continuous, the wrinkling of the eyelid area may return, at some point. The aging process may be continuous; nevertheless, patients are typically thrilled with their appearance for many years regarding the eyelid surgery. Some patients opt for additional treatments later on.

Pre-surgery consultation

It is best to come prepared for consultation with Dr. Singer. You will be asked a number of questions regarding your previous surgeries, past and present medical conditions, allergies, and medications. Dr. Singer may also ask if you have a condition called dry eye or any other problems with your eyes. It is important to provide complete and accurate information. High blood pressure, thyroid problems, diabetes, etc. shall be reviewed as it may increase the risks associated with surgery.

Aesthetic eyelid surgery procedure

There are several techniques that may be suggested to improve the look of your eyelids. Dr. Singer will recommend a specific technique that suits the amount of excess fat and skin around your eyelid areas, the position of your eyebrows, and the condition of muscles around your eyelids. Because these factors differ depending on individuals, one should not expect the same results from eyelid surgery. Dr. Singer will choose the surgical technique that will achieve the best results for you.

Upper eyelids

Upper eyelid surgery usually has an incision concealed within the natural fold of the upper eyelids. It extends slightly on the outside corner through the laugh lines or other prevailing wrinkles. Excess skin and fatty tissues are removed through this process. The incision is not clearly visible since it follows the natural contour of the upper eyelid. This procedure can oftentimes be performed under local anesthesia in an office setting.

Lower eyelids

Lower eyelid surgery generally has an incision concealed below the lower lashes. Excess skin, muscle, and fat (may be redistributed to obliterate bulges) are removed through this process. To correct special problems such as muscle laxity, other changes or alterations may be performed. In upper eyelid surgery, placing the incision in natural wrinkle lines allows for the scar to heal unnoticeably. You and Dr. Singer may prefer placing an incision inside the lower eyelid to remove excess fat. A laser may also be used in concurrence with this procedure to tighten the lower eyelid skin.
